Baltic Amber

An organic gem –– Amber formed when resin of the sap of prehistoric trees hardened and fossilised. One of the oldest known gems, some Amber specimens are over 300 million years old dating back to the ‘Upper Carboniferous Period’.

Once known as the ‘Gold of the North’ the most famous and sought-after Amber comes from the Baltic region. Indeed, prehistoric trade routes between Northern and Southern Europe were defined by the Amber trade. The ancient Greeks were particularly enamoured with the gem calling it ‘Elektron’ (made by the Sun). Indeed, Amber jewellery has been found in royal graves at Mycenae and Pylos, dating to c. 1600 BC.

Sterling Silver

Sterling Silver is an alloy containing 92.5% of silver and 7.5% of copper. Silversmiths created this alloy to give pure silver extra strength and durability.

This lustrous precious metal exhibits the highest conductivity, thermal and reflectivity of any metal. Intrinsically linked with status and wealth –

The words “silver” and “money” are interchangeable in many languages including French where “argent” means both money and silver.
