Found in a North Sea bed, just off the coast of Rotterdam and approximately 40.000 years old – our Woolly Mammoth Tusk is a fascinating artefact.

Tusks grow in annual layers, like the rings of a tree. Cut into cross sections –– each segment of Mammoth Tusk displays a series of rings, called “growth rings”.

Our Woolly Mammoth tusk is approximately 40,000 years old. Tusks are an important piece of evidence in telling the story of Mammoths. Like trees, each “Growth Ring” of a Mammoth’s Tusk accounts for a single year. A Mammoth’s health can even be determined during different times of its life based on the size of the growth rings.
